I wish I could save you right now.[Joe was in Sheryll's hospital room and Kevin had gone to get food. Sheryll lay still as he talked to her]JOE: Kevin's on his way with food. If you open your eyes I'll share with you.KEVIN: How is she?JOE: Not any better.KEVIN: The doctor said singing to her helps more.JOE: I've been singing to her all morning.KEVIN: Maybe she's tired of your voice.JOE: Maybe you should shut it.KEVIN: Ok, fine, just calm down.JOE: I am calm!KEVIN: Here. Eat something. You get cranky when you're hungry.[They ate and Joe watched the monitor]JOE: Do we have any concerts this week?KEVIN: Only one.JOE: Well, let's get going. Bye Sheryll.[He leaned down and placed a kiss on her cheek when Kevin turned toward the door]KEVIN: I saw that.JOE: Good.[Kevin pushed Joe out the door and shut it behind himself. If they had looked back one last time, they might have seen the single tear falling from Sheryll's eye]3 weeks laterMOM: It's been a month! Why isn't my daughter waking up?DOCTOR: I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do.DAD: Are we just supposed to watch her lay there?[Sheryll's parents were outside her hospital room with the doctor. Their voices echoed off the white walls]DOCTOR: We don't know why she hasn't come out of her coma, and I don't know when she'll come back. I'm sorry.[The doctor walked away and Kevin, Nick, Joe, Sam and Sarah came up to them]SAM: How is she?MOM: She's still not awake.SARAH: Can we go inside?DAD: Sure. We'll be downstairs.[Sheryll's parents walked away and they went inside. Kevin placed a basket full of flowers on a table next to Sheryll's bed. Joe started singing to her, and Kevin and Nick joined him]SAM: One whole month.SARAH: It feels like forever since the last time we talked to her.[It was quiet as the group settled into the chairs in the room, watching Sheryll and exchanging glances with one another]KEVIN: Why don't w grab some lunch and eat here?SAM: Ok.JOE: I'll stay here.[Kevin, Nick, Sam, and Sarah left Joe. He placed his chair next to her bed and took her hand in his]JOE: Hey. It's been a long time since I've heard your voice. I don't think I've ever heard you so quiet. I bet, when you wake up, you won't shut up. You'll probably have so much energy you'll be bouncing off the walls.[Joe laughed lightly. He was tired, so he rested his head on the bed. He didn't notice he had fallen asleep][Joe was back on the cruise ship, his arm around Sheryll.SHERYLL: So what have you been up to?JOE: You mean since the last time I talked to you?SHERYLL: Yeah.JOE: Well, we've been doing our concerts and everyday in between we've been coming to the hospital to sing to you.SHERYLL: I could hear you guys you know.JOE: Really?SHERYLL: Yeah, and you said some weird things. I was laughing, in the inside.JOE: I've missed you so much.SHERYLL: Joe, would you hate me if I left?[Joe was confused by the question]JOE: Are you going to move?SHERYLL: No, I'm not going to move. I'm... too tired, Joe.JOE: Tired? You haven't even woken up yet.SHERYLL: I don't know if... I can.[He finally understood]JOE: Sheryll you can't leave me. You have to keep fighting.SHERYLL: I'm exhausted, and you guys would be better off without me. Sam can get back with Kevin, and you can find someone else.JOE: I don't want anyone else.SHERYLL: Joe, just let me go.JOE: No![Sheryll tried to get out of his arms but he held onto her tightly]SHERYLL: Let me go, Joe.JOE: What am I supposed to do without you?SHERYLL: There are millions of other girls out there. I can just be one of your memories.JOE: If you leave me, I'll go crazy.SHERYLL: It's too hard for me, though. I've tried to get back to you guys, but I can't. It's too hard.JOE: I'll help you.[Sheryll faced Joe and held onto his hands]SHERYLL: Bye Joe.JOE: No! Don't go![Sheryll walked off and disappeared, leaving Joe confused and empty]JOE: Sheryll!][Joe woke with a start and felt someone's hand move in between his. He glanced up and Sheryll was looking at him]
