JAMAICAN Melaine Walker smashed the Olympic record in winning Jana Rawlinson's event - the women's 400m hurdles - in Beijing China. With reigning world champion Jana Rawlinson absent, Walker was never challenged and she seized on the perfect conditions at the Bird's Nest to stop the clock at 52.64sec. The fourth-fastest time in history bettered Fani Chalkia's Olympic record of 52.77sec set in Athens four years ago.
